Regaining Control
Posted on February 25, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
Have you ever had those days where you lose control? Have a moment of what I call “Temporary Insanity”, where emotions lead you to make decisions you would otherwise never have made? Have you ever had your better judgment hijacked by stinkin’ thinkin’. The most important factor in dealing with these moments is regaining control. You can have a bad day; however, it is up to you if it will be a bad week, a horrible month, or a lifetime of woe.
Everyday is an opportunity to renew our commitment to changes and move to the direction we want to go. When you wake up, you can decide to live in the failure of yesterday or begin to renew your hope of the day that is hand. If you fall down, then get up! If you mess up, then clean up! Frustration can try to overwhelm us in our journey; however, putting life into perspective will allow us to realize (as a teacher once said to me), that “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” Only you can decide where it goes from here.
Carpe Diem. Seize the Day.

A Positive Attitude Reservoir
Posted on February 23, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
How do you maintain a positive attitude in the face of life’s challenges? It is important that you have a constant and steady in-flow of positive information to your attitude reservoir. Examine what is being put into your life. What books are you reading? What music are you listening to? The people around you… is their chatter positive or negative? Fill your world with things that lift you up and give you the power of a positive attitude.
Most people spend a tremendous amount of energy trying to get out of life what they are NOT putting in to it. They read a book because it is on the bestseller’s list. They listen to music because it has a catchy beat. You can not wait til your life is in crisis to start looking for the positive. You have to be putting the positive in all along the way or else you will find yourself like so many who keep coming up empty.
Think of it like this. Your attitude reservoir is like a bucket. When you need resources, you can only get out of the bucket what you have put in. When your life is in crisis and you are down in the dumps – you ability to put into this bucket is very limited. Therefore, it requires you to act preemptively and put the good stuff in. This way when you need it, you will have it.
You can only get out of your life what you have put in. Evaluate what you are putting into your life and make a decision to build your positive reservoir today. Choose to be on top of the world!

The Key Ingredient to Success
Posted on February 18, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
So many people try their entire life to institute a positive change they feel is needed to achieve that ultimate success. Some are trying to earn that first million. Others are attempting to lose those love handles. Some are searching for that special someone to live their life with. Whatever your quest is, there is one ingredient that you must have to achieve your dreams… consistency.
Consistency is singular determination that no matter what the challenge is, you will continue towards your goal. You are the only person who can determine when you give up. The most successful people are those who looked at the odds, even when they were stacked against them, and chose to keep on fighting. You can miss the mark here and there; however, it will be up to you whether you achieve your dreams.
If you had a week off work and had plane tickets to a desirable destination that you had planned and wanted to go to for so long, then when you began to pull out of your driveway you find the road was blocked. You would not set up camp beside the roadblock. You would find a way around it… an alternative route. Therefore, why do we lay down in front of our problems. We must map out a route around them and overcome them.
Every day you get up, you must make a decision to keep going on towards your goals. It is a choice that no one else can make. So when you fail or give up, that is also a choice. Choose to be positive and grow. Choose to be enlightened and joyful. Choose to overcome your challenges and be a victor rather than a victim in spite of all roadblocks. Choose to be consistent. Choose to be successful!

Failure… a stepping stone to success!
Posted on February 17, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
Failures are a part of life. There is not a goal, worthy of achieving, that does not have a path riddled with failures to it. The most successful people in life have failed. It is not the failure within itself that determines who you are or what you achieve. It is whether you give up. Losers give up. Winners fail their way to success. The greatest of soldiers did not win every battle. The greatest of leaders did not know what it was to be undefeated. The greatest of people did not know what it was to be without fault.
You must cast off the shackles of defeat and put on the armor of the winner. You must learn to wear confidence that you can do anything you set our mind to, faith that the impossible is possible, and re-ignite the passion of your dreams. When you feel weak, then you must search within to find a source of strength. When you feel lost, then you must search around yourself to find your direction. When you feel like giving up, then you must grow up to accept a challenge being placed in front of you and not to give up.
You can achieve anything you want, if you want it bad enough. Go find out what you want!

Learn to Love Every Day!
Posted on February 14, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
It comes once a year and people rush to the store to buy that special someone a bouquet of roses that tripled in price as the week began, or a box of chocolates that cost more because they are packaged in a red box. Cards with a lace look litter our waste cans only days after while others feel left out of this madness because they have no one specific to share that special day with. What is the purpose of all this?
Valentine’s day is not a day to spend an exorbitant amount of money to prove you love someone. You prove you love someone everyday with your consistent thoughts of kindness and actions of caring. We do this by such actions as overlooking some one’s failure so they may keep some dignity when they are wrong, encouraging someone when they are doing something difficult even when we don’t understand, or helping provide a basic need that can help ease their hectic schedule.
Valentine’s day is the moment we are reminded to take an inventory of those who we love and those who have loved us over the past year. It is so easy to take people for granted and it’s not til they are gone that we truly learn what they gave us as they shared something special in our life. Do away with all the expensive gifts, fattening chocolates, and overpriced flowers. Stop in the day to let people around you know how their love has touched your life and made you a better person and remember to share that love with someone else.
Spread some love and help change a life. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hope begins with Attitude
Posted on February 11, 2009 | Filed Under Philosophical Reflections
Whatever you look for in your day – You WILL find. If you wake up and say this is going to be a great day – then it will happen. Conversely, if you wake up and say the opposite, then that will happen too. The language we use determines the attitude in which we face life.
This is not to say things don’t happen that are out of our control. It means that we are the pilot of our attitude in life’s chaos. Therefore, when things happen that are out of control for you… you have to remember that your emotional response to life’s circumstances has little bearing on those events. For example, if your car breaks down - you can be positive about the day or frustrated with the events. Either attitude – it will not help the car. The car will still be broken down. So you can choose to allow the events of the day to control your attitude or you can choose to be in charge, no matter what life deals you.
As John Maxwell says, our attitude determines our altitude. If you want to see how high you can go, if you want to find out how big you can dream, if you want to see how much hope a new day can bring, then simply commit yourself to a life where you take charge of your attitude.
Isn’t today a GREAT DAY!
